Get Rid of a Heat Rash: Treatment, Causes, and More

What causes the burn and how long does it last?

Your skin is your first line of defense and protects you from the outside world. It also helps regulate your body temperature by producing sweat. During the warmer months of the year, your body will produce a lot of sweat to cool itself down. Also known as heat rash, heat rash is usually caused by excessive sweating. Where the sweat glands are clogged and the sweat build up leads to a progressive rash.

Although heat rash is usually caused by excessive heat and sweat, it does not prevent it from occurring in the colder months. While people tend to lie down to stay warm, sweat can often trap and cause a rash.

Anyone can experience heat rash and it usually doesn't last more than two to three days of treatment

How can you prevent heat rashes?

  •  Wear loose-fitting cotton clothing

In warmer climates where your skin sweats more easily, it's important to stay cool and wear a loose cotton cloth. Cotton is a soft, light and breathable material that can escape heat and cool your body temperature.

  • Stay hydrated and avoid direct sunlight

Staying hydrated in hot climates by drinking plenty of fluids will allow the body to replace fluids lost through excessive sweating. Additionally, avoiding direct sunlight for long periods of time and finding cool or shady areas can help regulate body temperature and not lead to heat exhaustion.

  •  Switch up your bedding

Likewise, sleeping in a warm environment is often uncomfortable. Again, the light cotton bed allows heat to escape quickly and prevents overheating.

Treatment for heat rashes

To effectively treat heat rash, it is important to keep the skin cool and wear loose, light-colored clothing that wicks moisture away from the skin.
